Choosing the Best VG PG Blend

Choosing the Best VG PG Blend

Posted by Crystal Means on Jan 24th 2017

When your first begin vaping, there is so much information to learn and try to retain. It’s not the same as simply buying a pack of cigarettes and lighting one up. There are so many options to choose from, beginning with what flavours you prefer, should you get a pen mod or something a bit more complex like an RDA or tank, to what VG/PG ratio to choose. Which is what this blog is all about. Vaping is all about preference. It’s a personal experience that tailours specifically to the vaper. Once you’ve determined the flavour that you like, and you’ve got the device, you need to determine what you want most: clouds or throat hit? To do that, you need to know what VG (vegetable glycerin) and PG (propylene glycol) is and how they work.

Vegetable Glycerin

Vegetable glycerin, or VG, is a thick, viscous liquid that is used in e-liquid to produce the “clouds” or vapour. It is an odourless, colourless compound that is deemed safe as a food additive, making this a very important component of producing e-liquid. A higher VG blend, like 80%, is the most common preference among cloud-chasers in our community. The downside to vaping with a higher VG percentage is that it tends to clog up coils rapidly and aren’t really that great for tanks, which most beginner vapers start out with. Keep this in mind when selecting not only you e-liquid but the type of device you plan on using the most.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene glycol, or PG, is a thinner, more watery opposite of PG which provides the throat hit that former smokers seek when starting out. It, like VG, is also without colour and odour and is without a doubt what carries the flavor of your e-liquid. Most people have a sensitivity to PG, which is why most vapers commonly go for a higher VG concentrate. For the best of both worlds, a blend of 50VG/50PG can be used. No matter what you use, always remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated as each component can cause dry mouth.

Blends We Use

80VG/20PG: This high VG blend is a favorite selection on our site simply because of the clouds it produces. Because VG is sweet smelling and tasting, it’s a nice combination for most vapers when combined with their favourite flavour concentrates. It is recommended for vapers who “drip” their e-liquids using RDAs. Because of the thickness of it, tanks don’t usually do well with high VG. It doesn’t wick well, and it’s hard to taste the flavour.

65VG/35PG: This mid-range blend is one that I consider the “sweet spot” of vaping. It’s a nice mix of VG and PG that has just enough of a throat hit to mimic an analogue cigarette as well as a nice deep flavour. You still get a decent amount of clouds to blow without sacrificing flavour, since PG is the flavour carrier. In fact, all VapeWild pre-steeped liquids sold in shops are made with 65/35 blends to give vapers the ultimate vaping experience.

50VG/50PG: This blend is typically what vapers start out with. It tends to be a bit thinner than higher VG concentrates. It also has the most throat hit and when combined with a high nicotine strength, gives more of a feel of a cigarette than any other blend. The clouds tend to be less dense as well because of the high PG amount. This blend also works the best in tanks and even better if you are using an eGo style pen vape because the liquid is so thin. It carries the most flavor too! Vape What You Like What it all boils down to is preference, as I stated before. It all depends on what you like and what you’re using to vape. Hopefully these tips will help you to make the best decision in terms of what you like and don’t like. It’s all about what works for you and your device. Sure, people can give you recommendations, but it is only based on what works for them. You won’t figure it all out on day one so take your time and familiarize yourself with every part of vaping. When you find what works for you, stick with it and keep vaping. We’ll be there every step of the way to make sure you get what you need!
